Verve Cup Regatta

Dear Sailors,

As you prepare for the Verve Offshore this weekend, please take note of the following weather information available to you throughout the regatta, thanks to Sailing Weather Services.

Go to www.vervecup.com, on the top navigation you will find a link to the “Verve Weather Portal,” a website for the weather provided by Sailing Weather Services.

Thursday, August 13

On Thursday morning, the J109 fleet will receive a forecast via email. A video forecast will also be made available at vervecup.com.

Thursday evening, 6:30 PM at Monroe Street is the Skippers’ Meeting, which features a debrief on the 101st Race to Mackinac from Chris Bedford. We would love to include any questions or observations you have regarding the weather forecast for the Mac and how the weather actually played out. If you have questions for Chris that you’d like him to address, please email racecoordinator@chicagoyachtclub.org. We hope you’ll take advantage of the chance to ask questions of a sailing weather expert.

Chris’ debrief will show tracks of the race winner and some other interesting routes will be compared with the optimum courses for the race - assuming one had ‘perfect knowledge’ of the weather ahead of time. The goal will be to gain insight not only on the unique weather of Lake Michigan, but also the strategic decision making process as it relates to risk and reward in racing. Further weather observations, commentary and experiences will be entertained from the audience as time allows.

The second part of the presentation will relate to the weekend’s regatta, as Bedford offers a thorough weather briefing for the racing the Verve Cup on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. A video of the Skipper’s Meeting will also be posted at vervecup.com.

Friday – Sunday, August 14-16

Each morning throughout the regatta, you will receive a daily forecast via email and the video forecast will be posted on vervecup.com. Remember, if any of your crew would like to sign-up for these updates, please let them know they can do so at www.vervecup.com under “Regatta Documents” and click on “Subscribe to Event News.” Our intent is to have the forecast and video up and distributed by 7AM each morning.

On behalf of the Verve Committee, we look forward to a great weekend of racing. Should you have any questions about the weather presentation, forecasts, or other aspects of the event, please email Amanda Matta, Chicago Yacht Club Race Coordinator at racecoordinator@chicagoyachtclub.org .
